Our commitment to diversity and inclusion

Every day, we are focused on delivering on the promise of being a great place for people to work.

Diversity and inclusion are central to our company's values. Our mission is to actively promote an inclusive environment where all employees have the opportunity to achieve personal success and contribute to the growth of our business.

Acting on our commitment

To support the needs of employees with disabilities, we provide comprehensive programs that anticipate and respond to the needs of our current and future employees with disabilities. The bank makes approximately 1,500 accommodations annually. Our support for these employees includes five key resources:

  • Outreach and Retention Initiatives
  • Disability Resources Intranet Site
  • National Accommodation Program
  • Disability Accommodation Fund
  • Alternative Formats Program

We work closely with national and community- based organizations to find the right talent and create meaningful career opportunities. Our career site is compatible for screen- reading software users. Our Disability Advocacy Network (DAN) creates opportunities for advancement and development through networking, mentoring and information forums.

We provide access to key tools, resources and programs that support the needs of employees with disabilities. The site contains instructions to request reasonable accommodation, special technology user support, and ADA- related education and awareness material for all employees.

By calling a single telephone number, an individual can request comprehensive disability case management, including reasonable accommodation consultation, identification and implementation, from an accommodation specialist.

We created the Disability Accommodation Fund to provide financial assistance to meet the needs of employees who may require reasonable workplace accommodations.

For employees with vision impairments, we provide key benefits and company-wide communications in alternative formats, such as Braille, large print or electronic media, equipment such as telephone amplifiers and voice-activated software.

Disability Advocacy Network

One-half of the world's population is touched by disabilities, either directly or through family, personal or working relationships. Our population at Bank of America reflects this global reality. The bank's Disability Advocacy Network (DAN) was established to foster a work environment that accepts, values, respects and supports those affected by disabilities. The group is a source of support and information for employees and their children, friends and colleagues with disabilities as well as for others who are interested in this subject. The DAN sponsors programs and events that encourage partnerships, celebrate and embrace differences, promote creativity and develop opportunities for awareness and education. Membership is open to all - whether personally impacted by a disability or not.

At Bank of America, associates may care for family members with disabilities or live with a disability themselves. For example:

  • An employee returns to work after a disabling accident and looks for help...
  • A branch manager is looking for ways to introduce a new employee with a hidden disability to his team, without compromising the employee's privacy...
  • An employee is looking for suggestions about how to deal with caring for an aging parent who requires assistance with once-routine care...
  • A new employee is interested in learning more about opportunities to be a part of a team that makes a difference...
  • An employee has a friend who is suffering from a debilitating illness, and is asking his colleagues about resources...
